That magic number now makes Nintendo Japan’s third biggest company (up from fifth place just a few months ago), with only Toyota and Mitsubishi edging it out for first and second place, respectively. As Reuters points out, the new value is nearly triple what the company was worth before it launched the Wii late last year (although the DS no doubt had a fair bit to do with that as well), and a fivefold increase over what it was worth two years ago.

[Via TG Daily]
This nifty Battling Palmsize Havoc Helicopter from ThinkGeek “come in [a] set of two and let[s] you and a friend duke it out “laser tag” style for office air rights.” Video after the break.

Take to the air from the palm of your hand then use the shoulder buttons on the remote to fire at your opponent copter. A hit causes the shot copter to spin out of control and crash. Luckily these Battling copters are tough enough to keep coming back for more aerial dogfights

Confessions up front: we’re pretty hot for any device that sports some sort of console emulator, so when faced with GamePark Holding’s GP2X, which currently boasts of SNES, NES, Genesis, MAME and quite a few other gems, it’s a little difficult to rein in the enthusiasm. That said, the new F-200 could use just a little bit of slimming — you have to really mean it if you’re going to carry this thing around instead of your PSP or DS. Otherwise we found the unit to be quite comfortable to hold and use, responsive enough in the OS department, and completely packed to the gills with features. Video playback is sluggish, but games loaded and performed quite well. We weren’t able to test the F-200′s new touchscreen, which is the only upgrade of the device over the existing F-100, but apparently it will be implemented as a mouse controller for developers to do whatever they want with the Linux device. And trust us, they will.

The new unit still includes the 4.3-inch LCD and UMD, but is 33 percent lighter, 19 percent slimmer, has sped up game load times and improved battery life. The only real “new” features is a video output capability to allow you to play your PSP games on a big screen TV. You can score one in September in the original Piano Black, a new Ice Silver color, and a Star Wars Battlefront special edition. The latter two PSPs come in $199 bundles with related games and a 1GB Memory Stick in the case of Ice Silver. More pics after the break.

Update: Also worth noting is the fact that this new model “is equipped with enhanced feature to temporarily store game data from UMD, reducing load time during game play.” No complaints about that!

Oh my — we’re fallin’ in love. Our always-inventive pals in Taiwan have developed a “PDA Phone” called the Century Sutra 1688 that comes complete with a gamepad controller (not Bluetooth, darn) and an NES emulation system. If you’re fond of “Super Mario Brothers” and “The Legend of Zelda” from the NES craziness of the 80s, you’d probably hand over a month’s paycheck for one of these beauties just to take a trip down memory lane. We know we would. The gamepad for Windows Mobile isn’t exactly a new concept, but add in NES emulation — even though there are a ton of portable NES emulators out there — and we’re sold.

Of course, you’ll be somewhat limited in your gaming options, with the NES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Sega Mega Drive (a.k.a. Genesis) the only consoles supported, although that should still be more than enough to help you re-learn some of those old school skills you may have forgotten. The device itself also looks to be decent enough, with a 2.5-inch LCD, 2GB of internal memory, and an SD slot for some sure-to-be-needed additional expansion. Not surprisingly, this one looks to be exclusive to Korea for the time being, where it’ll set you back 169,000 won, or about $180.

[Via AVING]

With a controller as add-on-friendly as Nintendo’s Wiimote, we knew it was just a matter of time before peripheral makers everywhere hopped on the sure-to-be-overcrowded bandwagon of completely unnecessary adornments. That sleek, handheld device we once knew and loved will soon become the literal center of attention if JoyTech‘s smorgasbord of accessories gets ahold of it. While we knew a steering wheel contraption was coming down the pike, it looks like JoyTech is beating everyone else to the punch by unveiling a slew of Wiicessories that are supposed to “enhance your gameplay,” but stand a good chance of just adding unwanted girth. Nevertheless, we know the firm is pumping out a racing grip, golf grip, and racket grip to help hone your Wii Sports skills, while offering up Wii Silicon Gloves in a range of colors to presumably prevent the awful scenario only known as butterfingers from happening in your living room. Lastly, the Wii Power Station boasts dual battery packs, recharging ports, and a retractable cable to store your Nunchuck. While we’ve no idea how much money you’ll end up pouring into that fanciful controller, you can find these hanging around Wii displays shortly after tomorrow night’s launch.

According to iSuppli, the cost of manufacturing a 20GB PlayStation 3 “comes to just under $806, almost $307 more than the $499 asking price.” That figure does not reflect the cost of the included accessories — controller, cables, etc.

Compare the numbers to iSuppli’s estimate of how much it costs Microsoft to make a hard drive-fitted Xbox 360: $323, $76 less than the $399 retail price. Don’t forget that in both vendors’ cases the retail price is more than the company itself will receive, inflating Sony’s loss and reducing Microsoft’s profit margin. And Microsoft has had a year to drive up volumes and lower production costs

You can use the Night Lighter both day and night, but when it’s dark, the clear PVC provides an excellent view of the interior ballistics. Also, the stun gun gives better performance than weaker sparks from piezoelectric or flint/steel igniters. It’s fun both to fire and simply to watch in action
