Eizo’s 24-inch HD2451W LCD monitor with HD

Posted on 30 May 2007 by admin

Yup, it’s another 24-inch, 1920 x 1200 LCD monitor with 1000:1 contrast ratio. Not that that’s a bad thing. This time, it’s Eizo doing the honors with this, their Â¥149,800 (about $1,232) FlexScan HD2451W. That “HD” in the name gives a hint to the panel’s 2x HDMI inputs for 1080p sourced content. It also packs more traditional HDCP-enabled DVI and D-Sub15 inputs for your computers as well as S-Video and composite inputs for your other AV equipment. Rounding things out are a 450cd/m2 brightness, 16ms response, DVI and D-sub 15 inputs, a 2x USB hub, and the ability to pivot into portrait mode. The only thing that seems to be missing is LED backlighting. Eizo is also offering a business-minded FlexScan S2431W without all the pesky video inputs for Â¥114,800 (about $944) or a 20.1-inch, 1680 x 1050 FlexScan S2031W for Â¥59,800 (about $492) if your boss is a bit tight with the budget. All should hit Japan starting June 7. Check the backside ports on the HD2451W after the break.

JVC intros High Speed 2 1080p LCD TVs with 120Hz refresh

Posted on 18 May 2007 by admin

Just about a year ago, JVC introduced its first lineup of quickly refreshing LCD TVs, and now the company is reinstating its support by offering up adequate replacements. The forthcoming High Speed 2 series of sets will sport a second-generation version of its Clear Motion Drive technology, which enables a 120Hz refresh rate that was “designed specifically for Full HD (1,920 x 1,080) displays” and is said to “improve motion detection fivefold compared to the original high speed driver.” Essentially, CMD II will offer up reduced blurring, flickering, and motion interpolation, and it will work side by side with the fifth-generation D.I.S.T. (Digital Image Scaling Technology) engine on the “JVC-exclusive” 32-bit Genessa chip. Additionally, the trio will sport three HDMI 1.3 ports apiece, a slimmer bezel around the display, and a whole lot less plastic compared to previous iterations. While there’s no word on price just yet, the 37-inch LT-37X898, 42-inch LT-42X898, and 47-inch LT-47X898 should hit US shores sometime this fall.

Pioneer announces 8th-gen plasmas with 20,000:1 contrast

Posted on 08 May 2007 by admin

Pioneer 8th gen 1080p 50-inch plasma
Pioneer has announced its 8th generation of plasmas in Europe, with six 720p sets available in June in 42- and 50-inch sizes, and four 1080p sets in 50- and 60-inch flavors coming in September. All models have integrated DVB-T tuners and detachable speakers, with the 720p sets sporting a 16,000:1 contrast ratio, and the 1080p sets stepping it up to a whopping 20,000:1. Pioneer claims that it redesigned the sets from the ground up with improved color reproduction and contrast in mind, and have improved over older plasmas by up to 80%, including Intelligent Brightness Control, which promises to display the best picture regardless of lighting conditions. Prices and exact release dates have not been set, but Tech.co.uk is reporting potential model numbers of PDP508 for the 50-inch 1080p set and PDP4280XD / PDP5080XD for the 42- / 50-inch 720p units.

NEC dishes 5 new MultiSync monitors for the pros

Posted on 12 April 2007 by admin

NEC just kicked out five new professional MultiSync monitors which do their best to mimic the specs of their 25.5-incher out since January. Of course, any MultiSync panel is interesting, especially the new 22-inch LDC233WXM (Â¥56,500 / $473), 20-inch LCD203WXM (Â¥41,500 / $348), and 19-inch LCD193WM. However, as Samsung told us yesterday, it’s all about the 24-inch now. No LED back-lighting here folks, but NEC’s (Â¥186,900 / $1,566) LCD2490WUXi does pack the same H-IPS LCD panel, 12-bit look-up tables, and embedded circuitry found in its bigger brother. Likewise, it brings a 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA) resolution, 800:1 contrast ratio, 400cd/m2 brightness, and 178-dgree viewing angle only with additional jacks this time: 3x DVI-D (HDCP), 1x DVI-I (HDCP), and 1x D-Sub15. The lesser spec’d (Â¥129,800 / $ 1,088) LCD2470WNX sports a 1920 x 1200 pixel, 24-inch S-PVA LCD and 2 HDCP-enabled DVI-D jacks with a D-Sub15 thrown in for grins. All hitting Japan on April 24th.

ASUS’ PG221 gaming monitor rocks the dorm

Posted on 17 March 2007 by admin

If space is such a premium that you must skimp on sound, then go ‘head, be our guests and choose ASUS’ PG221 as your all-in-one rig for sight and sound. Like the 19-inch PG191, the 22-inch LCD features an integrated 2.1 audio system (subwoofer tucked away in the LCD stand), a 1.3 megapixel webcam bunged into the bezel, and a snappy 2ms response which seemed happily unaffected by the Hulky booms ASUS demonstrated. “Hulk,” as in the movie used for the demonstration, the sound was just average but certainly good enough for a small apartment or dorm. The PG221 brings a 1680 x 1050 resolution, 3x USB hub, 1000:1 contrast, 300cd/m2 brightness, touch-sensitive controls and a range of inputs including DVI, D-Sub, composite, S-Video, component and of course, a microphone jack for all your cross-net trash talkin’ needs. No price or release date, just plenty of pics after the break.

Acer releases new xSeries LCD monitors

Posted on 17 March 2007 by admin

Acer’s recently carpet bombed the US with no less than five new LCD monitors in its entry-level xSeries lineup, with models ranging from 17- to 24-inches that are rather obliquely said to be designed for “multimedia, gaming and video applications.” Since the specs on these two standard and three widescreen displays are average at best, we’re not sure that pros in any of the above mentioned fields would really be interested — but with prices ranging from $180 (17-inch x171s) to just $600 (24-inch widescreen x241Wsd), they could certainly give Dell, Samsung, and friends a run for their money. Specifically, the two square models (the 17-incher and 19-inch x191sd) share the exact same configuration save for maximum viewing angles, with both displays offering up 1,280 x 1,024 resolutions, eight millisecond response times, 700:1 contrast ratios, and 300cd/m² maximum brightness. The widescreen models do just a little bit better: the 19-inch x191Wsd and 22-inch x221Wsd rock 1,440 x 900 and 1,680 x 1,050 resolutions, respectively, along with five millisecond response times, 800:1 contrast ratios. and the same max brightness as their buddies; meanwhile, the 24-incher steps up the resolution to a pretty standard 1,920 x 1,200, contrast ratio to 1000:1, and brightness to 400cd/m², but retains the five millisecond response time of the other widescreens. Should be in stores now, so go nuts.
