DPI’s TITAN 1080p-250: their first 3-chip DLP projector for the home

Posted on 01 September 2006 by admin

Check it big spenders ’cause the pros just dropped a new home theater projector into the mix. Introducing Digital Projection International’s (DPI) native 1080p, 3-chip DLP projector — the TITAN 1080p-250 — their first 3-chip DLP projector designed exclusively for “the most elite” home cinemas. Using TI’s 0.95-inch dark metal DLP technology, this pup brings a 1920 x 1080 resolution and 5000:1 contrast ratio while throwing a theater-quiet (outside New York, anyway) 35dBs and bright 2000 ANSI Lumens off a single, 250-watt HID lamp. Optimized for the 6 to 16-foot screen, you get plenty of control over the projected image with 7-point color correction as well as independent control of black level and lamp brightness. Sorry, no HDMI inputs here so you’ll have to settle for HDCP enabled DVI or the array of other standard connections available. Sure it’s ugly, but this projector is meant for a home cinema enclosure son, not for keeping your Pabst company on the card table. Available now for an undisclosed price ’cause that’s how these high-end products roll, 10-4?

Epson releasing P-3000 and P-5000 photo viewers

Posted on 31 August 2006 by admin

Epson‘s about to let loose a couple of bumps to its line of portable photo viewers / media players, tossing the P-2000 and P-4000 to the curb in favor of the numerically-enhanced P-3000 and P-5000. Both models retain the same 40GB and 80GB hard drives of their predecessors as well as SD and CompactFlash slots (other formats’ll need an adapter– so sorry, dear xD), with each getting a slight boost in screen size to a full four inches (up from 3.8 inches). The biggest benefit, however, seems to be an increase in operating speed — a mighty 250% faster, according to Epson. The units also continue to blur the line between photo viewers and portable media players, boasting a hefty line-up of video support (including DivX) as well as MP3 and AAC audio support. Look for these to hit stores before the end of the year for $499 and $699, respectively.

Sharp Aquos 52-inch LCD’s

Posted on 31 August 2006 by admin

Sony schmony, Sharp’s here to remind us that they too, make some compelling gear by dropping 3 new LCD panels onto the stack of smaller sets rolled out earlier this month. Each of the 52, 46, and 42-inch LCDs bring that 1920×1080 Full HD (1080p) resolution you’ll want at these sizes, a 450cd/m2 brightness, a “world’s highest” 2000:1 contrast ratio, and “world’s fastest” full-motion video response rate of 4-milliseconds — just take those numbers with a grain of salt as methods of measurement vary, mkay? The three sets feature two Familink compatible HDMI inputs and remote control (which is presumably like Panny’s Viera Link HDMI control interface), a single DVI-I jack and dual digital/analog tuners. You can then configure each panel with either two side-mounted speakers or a single speaker under the panel which Sharp claims will produce clear, natural sound. Fine, but you’ll more than likely pitch ‘em in favor of your home audio system anyway. The 52 and 46-inch panels (LC-52GX1W / 2W, LC-46GX1W / 2W) should be available August 1st in Japan for Â¥600,000 (about $5,125) and Â¥500,000 (about $4,271) respectively, with the 42-incher (LC-42GX1W / 2W) coming a bit later in November for Â¥450,000 or about $3,844 whenever these show-up Stateside.

Epson launches three inkjets: R260, R380, and the RX580 all-in-one

Posted on 30 August 2006 by admin

Epson unveiled three new “Ultra Hi-Definition” photo printers on Monday with the launch of the Stylus Photo R260, R380 (pictured) and RX580 all-in-one. All three share the same print engine and redesigned print heads to print 4×6 photos in just 13 seconds while spitting out B/W or colored text at up to 30 pages per minute — both bests for Epson photo printers. They also feature Epson’s unique, out-of-the-box ability to print direct to printable CD/DVDs dropped into the front-loading tray. The R260 is the base model with the R380 adding memory card slots and a large, 3.5-inch LCD right up front for viewing your shots when printing directly off memory cards; something you’ll do oh, maybe once in a lifetime if you’re one of the lucky few to actually own a computer at home with even the most rudimentary photo management software installed. The RX580 drops that pointless LCD down to 2.5-inches but brings a 1,200 pixel per inch optical scanner with a useful direct-to-PDF function. As you’d expect, scanned images can then be copied (aka, printed) at that same 30 pages per minute rate. And when combined with Epson’s new Claria ink, your photos will last longer than even those produced by a professional lab. Hey, that’s what Epson is touting in the hopes of locking you into their replacement ink cartridges for the decades it will take to prove ‘em wrong. Expect the R260 to pull $130 with the R380 and RX580 both demanding $200.

Philips Pronto Pro TSU9600 mega remote

Posted on 29 August 2006 by admin

From what we’re told, Philips is keeping tight lipped about their latest Pronto megamote, but it sounds like they’re close to launching it at the CEDIA home entertainment expo coming up next month. Supposedly the TSU-9600 will feature everything from a 3.7-inch VGA touchscreen display to IR and wireless extenders, a soft touch finish, and features improvied IR learning, PC macro downloads, even voice recognition. This is sure to be one of those you can’t afford it if you have to ask the price scenarios, but we’ll keep you apprised as to its existence (or arrival, as it were) when the time comes.
