Just in case you need 500 pixels or more to really determine whether something is sexy or not, MSI has finally put together a sweet pack of press shots that really do the Wind justice. Needless to say, we’d be mighty hesitant to start bangin’ out the 42nd page of our dissertation with grease-covered digits on this beauty. Did someone say high maintenance? Hit the read link for lots more looks.

We’ll go ahead and let those other guys battle it out for the “world’s smallest” camcorder title — meanwhile, Sony’s just cranked out the one to really pay attention to. The HDR-TG1 Handycam checks in at just 1.3- x 4.7- x 2.5-inches and weighs ten ounces, all while boasting the ability to capture those oh-so-precious vacation moments and unannounced streaking episodes in 1080p 1080i. Aside from that, it’ll snag stills at 4-megapixels and holds everything on MS Pro Duo / Pro Duo Mark2 cards, while the 2.7-inch touchscreen keeps your eyes glued to the action. Furthermore, you’ll find a 10x Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar optical zoom lens, BIONZ processing engine, 5.1 Dolby Digital audio recording and a bundled 4GB Pro Duo Mark2 card for $900. Get ready — this one’s comin’ at you next month.
Update: Will be called the HD TG3E in Europe.

There you have it, the first laptop we’ve seen running Intel’s long awaited Atom processors. We’re pretty sure that’s MSI’s Wind PC on display in Shanghai for Intel’s Developer Forum. Of course, we’ve already seen Atom listed as the CPU in the G10IL and new 8.9-inch Eee PC among others. But there’s nothing like seeing the genuine article running on Intel’s newest silicon. If you’re a fan of the Eee PC form factor then you’ll be stoked by what looks like a truck-load of 7- to 9-inch ultra-portables on way. Click the read link to see a few more.

Just in case a completely ho hum 17-incher wasn’t enough to keep your attention this morning, Toshiba is trumpeting its “design prowess” by introducing four “re-imagined” Satellites. As of today, the 13.3-inch U400, 14.1-inch M300, 15.4-inch A300 (pictured) and 17-inch P300 have all been ever-so-slightly refreshed with the outfit’s Fusion Finish, Feather-Touch multimedia keys, white LED accents and built-in Dolby Sound Room technology. Additionally, Tosh is unveiling its totally useful Sleep-and-Charge USB ports, which enable users to charge up their portable gadgetry via USB regardless of whether the laptop is powered on / off or in Sleep mode (so long as it’s tethered to an AC outlet, of course). Check out the gloating in full below.

Damn, Everex clearly stepped up their game with the Cloudbook MAX. Not that we want to harsh on the original Cloudbook or anything, but this thing is definitely in a different class — and the integrated XOHM WiMAX doesn’t hurt, either. Check out some hands-on shots taken at CTIA below.

Intel officially took the wraps off its widely-discussed and readily-implemented Centrino Atom processor / system controller for MIDs last night, and while there aren’t a lot of surprises in spec land, it was nice to finally get an idea of what these suckers will cost:
- Z500 – 800MHz, 0.65W TDP power, 400MHz FSB, 512K L2 cache ($45)
- Z510 – 1.1GHz, 2W TDP power, 400MHz FSB, 512K L2 cache ($45)
- Z520 – 1.33GHz, 2W TDP power, 533MHz FSB, 512K L2 cache ($65)
- Z530 – 1.6GHz, 2W TDP power, 533MHz FSB, 512K L2 cache ($95)
- Z540 – 1.86GHz, 2.4W TDP power, 533MHz FSB, 512K L2 cache ($160)
That’s the pricing per 1,000 units, and is a little bit more than that $30 1.6GHz Atom 230 we were hearing about, but it does include the CPU plus the System Controller Hub with integrated graphics, HD video playback, HD audio and other nifty I/O things like support for WiFi, WiMAX and cellular radios.

It’s no secret that 2008 is shaping up as a stellar year for ultraportables, and now even perennial clunker manufacturer Rock is getting in on the action. The new Pegasus 210 is built on Intel’s UMPC internals, with a 800MHz A110 processor doing the “heavy” lifting. The laptop sports 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth and optional HSDPA connectivity, along with a 80GB 1.8-inch HDD, 1GB of RAM, a 4-in-1 card reader and a PCMCIA slot. There’s no disc drive, but there is a full complement of ports on the 2.2 pound laptop. You can pick one up for a rather palatable £799 in the UK (about $1,582 US).
