Logitech’s Wave keyboard

Posted on 27 July 2007 by admin

ExtremeTech, known for getting down to the nitty gritty, has just given the Logitech Wave a thorough review — and they kind of like what they see. The comfort-minded keyboard with the cheapo price point might be what you need, but only if your requirements for “ergonomics” aren’t too serious. The Wave’s keys are arranged in a U-shape design, and the heights of individual letters are higher or lower in an attempt to match hand placement (taller for shorter fingers and vice versa), but that’s about it. So while the Vista-approved input device gets decent marks from ET on feel (“soft and cushy” “high-end”), they say the actual comfort factor isn’t all that noticeable. Logitech also offers a Desktop bundle which includes the LX8, an ambidextrous mouse that ExtremeTech says is good in most respects, but can’t match the feel of a right- or left-hand specific mouse. If you really need to be sure, hit the read link for the full rundown.

FujiFilm’s A920 and A480 compact shooters

Posted on 26 July 2007 by admin

FujiFilm has been busy this morning. After the torrent of new cameras we just saw, we figured it was time for a little breather — clearly we were wrong. The company just announced another set of FinePix models, the A920 and the F480 (pictured). The former is a 9 megapixel compact, with a 4x optical zoom, 2.7-inch LCD screen, xD / SD / SDHC card support, Picture Stabilization, and “movie mode” up to 640 x 480. The latter is a follow-up to the company’s F470, a compact of the 8 megapixel variety with specs so similar to the aforementioned A920 we would say they are identical except for the F480′s 4x “wide zoom”. Both the A920 and the A480 will be available in September for $199.95 and $179.95, respectively.

Razer updates Diamondback gaming mouse with “3G” sensor

Posted on 26 July 2007 by admin

Ever the sticklers for mouse precision, the folks at Razer have now gone and updated their Diamondback gaming mouse with their third generation (3G) infrared sensor, which was first put to use in the company’s unfortunately-named DeathAdder mouse. As with that mouse, the Diamondback will give you an impressive 1800 dpi resolution, along with on-the-fly sensitivity adjustment, seven independently programmable buttons, and a rubberized non-slip finish, not to mention a choice of colors to light up your desk. Look for it to be available at the beginning of next month for $60.

FujiFilm’s FinePix F50fd 12 megapixel compact powerhouse with IrSimple

Posted on 26 July 2007 by admin

Step aside Mary Lou Retton, there’s a new pint-sized powerhouse loose in the US. Meet the $300 F50fd from FujiFilm which stuffs that ridiculous 12 megapixel, 1/1.6-inch CCD into this FinePix’s slim chassis with 3x optical zoom and 2.7-inch LCD in tow. The cam sports a dual-shot mode (one with and one without flash taken in rapid succession), xD/SD/SDHC expansion, and FujiFilm’s v2.0 Face Detection tech, a mechanically stabilized CCD sensor and the ability to shoot at ISO 1600 at full resolution. It will also be one of the first domestic shooters to support IrSimpleShot (IrSS) high speed data transfer when it enters the US market in September. And here you thought infrared was dead you silly, silly boy.

Fujitsu LIfebook T2010 tablet snooped at the FCC

Posted on 25 July 2007 by admin

It looks like the “handsome” new Fujitsu T2010 that we saw back in the beginning of July has made its way into the loving arms of the FCC — where they’ve given it their precious stamp of approval. Of course, this doesn’t mean anything yet, as the company hasn’t made any announcements, but it does open the possibility of seeing the 12.1-inch ultralight tablet around these parts in the future. The Core 2 Duo system runs on Intel’s Santa Rosa 965 chipset, with an integrated X3100 GMA graphics chip, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a weight starting at just 3.31 lbs. Check the read link for pages of fascinating FCC documents.

Sony Vaio TZ review roundup

Posted on 25 July 2007 by admin

The first reviews of Sony’s new top-of-the-line ultraportable, the Vaio TZ, are are starting to trickle in, and they’re surprisingly mixed. While there’s no doubting the overall hotness of the industrial design, the older, non-Santa Rosa chipset, 1.1GHz Core 2 Duo ultra low voltage processor, and integrated GMA 950 graphics don’t seem to provide all that much bang for your $2,200 bucks, and the system seems to be preloaded with tons of crapware — Laptop Magazine straight up says the TZ ran “as if it were broken” until they cleaned it up. Still, most reviewers found the design, battery life, available 32GB SSD, and WWAN options to be intriguing enough to rate high scores — either that, or this thing is even sexier in person.
