Petlink dog collar features GPS for peace of mind

Posted on 10 May 2007 by admin

Joining an already crowded field of products designed to prey on pet owners’ love for their animals, a new GPS-equipped dog collar from Sweden’s Petlink Development and M-Tech promises to give you Rover’s exact coordinates by simpling texting the service over Telia’s network. The self-titled Petlink device works much like the GPS PRO we saw a few years back, allowing Swedes and eventually Danes to pay around twelve bucks a month for the privilege of nailing down a lost pet’s location on the off chance that they successfully escape from captivity their happy homes. Unfortunately Petlink — like most other models in this category — is a little too bulky for use on animals of the feline persuasion, so if you’re a cat owner, this may be just the impetus you need to trade up to a nice Lab or pit bull.

Teclast T39: first 16GB flash PMP

Posted on 10 May 2007 by admin

Following up on its fairly eye-catching T19 and T29 PMPs of years past (mainly last year), Chinese manufacturer Teclast has taken the lid off its upcoming, sequentially-named T39 — whose main claim to fame is that it could well be the first flash-based media player to hit 16GB of storage (feel free to shoot down that assertion in the comments). For those not willing to pay what will likely be a premium for such a capacious device, the 2.6-inch T39 will also come in 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB flavors, all of which support MP3, WMA, WAV, FLAC, AVI, and WMV files. With an FM tuner, electronic dictionary (though not in English, we’re suspecting), and some kind of games on board as well, it sounds like this one could be a real winner when and if it ever hits the States; as of now, though,we don’t have much more than a few specs and pics, so don’t go blending your nano just yet.

The solar powered lighter flings sparks without fuel

Posted on 10 May 2007 by admin

Considering that the smokers in the house have probably already set up an import to get one of Golden Dragon’s e-cigarettes shipped over, why not do yet another good deed and rid yourself of that fossil fuel-wasting lighter? All jesting aside, it seems that a Portuguese webstore is stocking a rather vivid new way to start fires (and open bottles, too) using the sun, and thankfully, it doesn’t involve a magnifying glass and days of patience. The device is equipped with a built-in solar panel that reportedly utilizes sunlight or artificial light to charge up internal Li-ions, and with the presumed flick of a switch, the device flings out a “continuous series of sparks” that should get that pilot light going. Apparently, this thing isn’t meant to be a flamethrower of any sort, but if you’re out of matches and have tons of dry lint, you can snag one of these uber-green fire starters for €13.90 ($19).
