Digital Cowboy intros webcam with telephoto lens

Posted on 30 January 2007 by admin

While it’s decidedly lacking compared to some telephoto lenses we’ve seen, Digital Cowboy‘s new 7x number here should still be more than enough to make most other short-sighted webcams feel woefully inadequate about themselves. Detach that lens, however, and you’re left with a fairly run-of-the-mill webcam, with a 1.3 megapixel resolution, face-tracking functionality, and video recording at up to 30 fps — if you don’t mind dropping things down to 640 x 480, that is (you’ll just get 15 fps at the cam’s full resolution). Those looking to put the webcam to some remotely-controlled use will also be out of luck, with the lens strictly a manually operated deal. Look for this one to hit Japan next month for 9.800 Yen, or just over $80.

Epson’s NA102 and NA702 laptops

Posted on 30 January 2007 by admin

Epson is doing the CPU bump this morning with their 12.1-inch and 14.1-inch Endeavor laptops now packing Vista pre-loads. The NA101 is re-christened the NA102 in celebration of its new 1.2GHz U2500 Core Duo processor option. Otherwise, it brings a Vista Home Basic pre-load and same 1024 x 764 pixel display, Intel 945GMS Express graphics, and up to 1.5GB of DDR2 memory and 100GB of disk. The slab weighs between 2.4 and 3.3-pounds depending upon the options you select such as their chunky 13,000mAh battery. Oh, and get this: if you load Vista, Epson claims a 17% to 20% reduction in battery life, dropping off from 12.6-hours under XP to 10.5-hours under Vista when using that long haul battery, or from 5.6-hours to 4.5-hours off the standard 5200mAh battery. The 14.1-inch NA701 become the new NA702 now with a T7600 Core 2 Duo processor option. It packs that same 1400 x 1050 resolution, up to 1.5GB of DDR2 memory and new 160GB of disk, and any version of Windows Vista you desire since the NA702′s brings beefier nVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 graphics with 128MB of dedicated video memory. Both build-to-order models are available starting today in Japan.

DViCO’s TiVX 5010-P HDTV recorder

Posted on 30 January 2007 by admin

Korea’s DViCO is prepping to launch their latest home media system with this, their new TiVX 5010-P HD TV recorder. If you think this all-singing, all-dancing personal video recorder looks like their M-5000U media streamer well, you’d be right. So as you’d expect, you get all that existing media goodness in addition to a new EPG, integrated ATSC hi-def television tuner, and the ability to record video at a 1920 x 1080 resolution in MPEG-2 TP transport stream files. In other words, it supports MPEG-1, MPEG-2, (VOB, ISO and IFO), AVI, TP, WMV9, tp, trp and ts (and the most common subtitle formats) video; JPEG images; and MP3, WMA, AAC, Ogg, PCM, AC3, M4A, FLAC and WAV audio. It also packs DVI, component, S-Video and composite video outs and 2x USB 2.0 ports for adding external disk drives (this PVR is diskless) or optical discs. A third USB 2.0 port can act as host to your digital camera or USB-equipped MP3 player without the need for a PC to transfer files. It connects back to the home net and Internet via your choice of fixed 10/100Mbps Ethernet or 802.11b/g WiFi — sorry, no draft-802.11n here. Priced at 330,000KRW or just $352.

Sunlike MP611 PMP

Posted on 30 January 2007 by admin

Mebbe your phone is treating you just fine, but you still find yourself lusting after those glowing accents of LG’s ultrapopular Chocolate phone. Well never fear, Asia (we’ll go out on a limb here and narrow it down to China) totally has your back. The new Sunlike MP611 PMP liberally “borrows” stylings from the LG flagship, but is no slouch on specs: a 2.4-inch QVGA screen, MPEG-4 video playback with external speaker, built-in microphone, USB 2.0, ebook reader and even gaming — perhaps via Flash Lite. Memory is expandable via miniSD, though we’re not sure how much, if any, memory comes standard. We’re also digging the 0.39-inch thickness. Too bad all that silly “respect for intellectual property” stuff keeps DAPs like this out of the States.

[Thanks, Steve]

Trinion L7 HTPC touts integrated touchscreen LCD

Posted on 30 January 2007 by admin

Just in case you’re looking for something similar to OriginAE’s latest LCD-equipped HTPC enclosure, but would rather the unit come fully stocked and ready to rock, the Trinion L7 should fit the bill. This Korean-based unit packs a sexy, silver chassis, seven-inch 800 x 480 resolution touchscreen LCD monitor, 1.66GHz Intel T5500 processor, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, 250GB hard drive, 8-channel onboard audio, gigabit Ethernet, combo drive, and Windows XP Media Center Edition pre-installed. Additionally, the company offers up an IR remote to control the action from afar, front-panel flash card readers, USB / FireWire connectors, and audio in / out ports, and the built-in UI provides easy access to DVD playback, games, office applications, photos, TV episodes, etc. While we’re not sure when South Koreans can expect this to land on local shelves, be sure to click on through for a more shots of the machine in action.

Faith-go’s Inspire X does quad-core AMD style

Posted on 30 January 2007 by admin

Lest we forget, Intel’s QX6700 isn’t the only quad-core game in town, and while AMD’s Quad FX platform might’ve been edged out by Intel in benchmark land, there’s still plenty to love about the power chompin’ beast. Faith-go is putting those cores to good use in its stylish new Inspire X FX70XN/DVR-88GTX setup, which sports an Athlon 64 FX-70 processor, along with GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB graphics, 2GB of RAM, a 10k rpm 150GB HDD, and a super multi-DVD drive. All of this (literal) hotness resides on a NVIDIA nForce 680a SLI chipset, with the chutzpah to support up to four graphics cards. Considering the bleeding edge components on display here, the $3,253 pricetag doesn’t sound too ridiculous, though we’re not positive this box will be making its way to the US anyways, so perhaps the point is moot.
