Teclast C260 do-it-all

Posted on 02 January 2007 by admin

Teclast is keeping things fresh with its latest style-conscious DAP / PMP / gaming handheld, the C260. Joining the growing fray of Chinese all-in-one wonders, this sexy machine boasts a 3.15- x 1.85- x 0.39-inch enclosure, 2.4-inch QVGA touchscreen, landscape layout, built-in FM radio tuner, audio input for recording, headphone jack, USB 2.0 connectivity, and eight pre-loaded equalizer functions. Aside from playing nice with MP3 / WAV on the audio side, it also reportedly supports XviD, DivX, and AVI on the video front, while displaying JPEG slideshows and simple text files on the side. Additionally, it purportedly features some sort of “gaming” functionality in case the tunes loaded on your microSD card get stale. So if you’ve been craving a do-it-all device that remarkably resembles LG’s Chocolate handset, the 1GB C260 should be hitting the Chinese streets soon for just 399 CNY, or about $51.

Hitachi does 800 x 480 display for phones

Posted on 02 January 2007 by admin

Heck, plain ol’ QVGA displays on phones are still a fairly scarce commodity in some parts of the world, but Hitachi knows you want… nay, need more. VGA, perhaps? Nope, keep going; think wider. Hitachi has officially started pumping out copies of its 2.9-inch, 800 x 480 cellphone display, promising web browsing experiences that could finally catch up with the 3G data speeds modern handsets are offering. The company points out that such crazy-fresh resolution typically leads to crazy-fresh battery drainage thanks to increased backlight brightness requirements, but engineers have apparently put in some late nights miniaturizing the circuitry and designing a new pixel structure to minimize power draw. Better yet, the panel promises a 170 degree viewing angle and a 400:1 contrast ratio. Only thing left, it seems, is for some scrappy manufacturer and/or carrier to step forward and announce a killer device wrapped around this sucker. Why do we get the strange feeling we should keep our eyes on NTT DoCoMo for that?

LG’s XNOTE Z1 series of 12.1-inch laptops

Posted on 02 January 2007 by admin

LG’s offering a new series of 12.1-inch Core 2 Duo laptops in their hometown Korean market with this, their Z1 XNOTE. The Z1-P2007 is touted as the flagship model and ships with a WXGA LCD, 1.83GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 256MB of ATI Mobility Radeon X1350 graphics, and 1GB DDR2 memory and 100GB SATA disk. They also pack in an optical disc drive supporting unspecified formats, a 5-in-1 memory card reader, a couple of 1.5W speakers, and support for SRS WOW, and SRS TruSurround. However, unlike LG’s ultra-portable 12.1-inch TX, the Z1 brings some relative chunk tipping the scales at 1.89-kg or 4.2-pounds. Still, not a bad all purpose machine for toting around campus on a daily basis. But with a price tag of 1,840,000KRW or about $2,000, you’re going to need some help from mom and dad to bring this pup home.

First Look: Toyota FT-HS Hybrid Sports Concept

Posted on 02 January 2007 by admin

Toyota unveils its stunning FT-HS Hybrid Sports Concept, which some claim to be the Supra’s next-generation successor. This “2-door sports coupe will put out 400hp using the same incredible engine as the Lexus GS450h.” Lots of pictures after the jump.

..with its light weight, the FT-HS should be able to hit the 60mph mark in just 4 seconds, undercutting the GS450h by over a second. The FT-HS has a perfect 50/50 weight distribution and is similar in size to the Lexus SC430 convertible. Toyota claims that such a car could hit the market for between $30-40K, but we’re highly skeptical of that figure
