Aquapac PDA wallet

Posted on 15 November 2006 by admin

Your Treo stays dry in the Aquapac PDA wallet even when submerged underwater is a great review over at Palm Discovery. “If you’re an active sailor or just someone who loves to participate in water sports, or other activities where you are exposed to water and still wish to keep your Palm or Treo with you, here’s a great product that you should not be without. Or even simply going to the beach where you don’t want sand to get into your Palm. This will be a great case that will protect and prevent anything from getting in once it’s snapped shut. The Aquapac PDA wallet case is a rubbery, waterproof wallet, or more really like a watertight, waterproof portfolio/bag that allows you to put in that precious electronic hypochrondriac device and keep it safe and dry while you are in the water. The idea is simple but somewhat hard to implement in real life: create a watertight seal for a case or bag but yet allow the device to still be somewhat accessible for usage while underwater.”

Nokia “E62i” spotted?

Posted on 15 November 2006 by admin

[From Craig] PDA / Smartphone news this hour and Craig spotted information of the rumored E61i over at Engadget. “blurry camphone shots of a supposed “E62i” successor to the E61/62 qwerty handhelds points to a marked slimming of the phone, and every mm counts in a world of smartphones like the Excalibur, Q and Pearl. From the pics, it’s apparent Nokia has also added a couple of face buttons, swapped the 5-way joystiq for a welcome new flat button, and added a camera.”

Dell enhances 30-incher: 3007WFP-HC

Posted on 15 November 2006 by admin

In addition to their XPS gaming rig, Dell also bumped the specs on their 30-inch widescreen 3007WFP LCD today. The Dell UltraSharp 3007WFP-HC now covers 92% of the NTSC color space for “richer, more dynamic colors” via a Wide Cold-Cathode Fluorescent Lighting (W-CCFL) backlight. It still features that same, sweet 2560×1600 (WQXGA) resolution we can’t live without while shaving the response down from 14 to 8-ms. Available sometime later this year for $1,699 — yeah, that’s right around $400 more than the 3007WFP.

Lenovo’s X60 Tablet PC reviewed

Posted on 15 November 2006 by admin

Lenovo’s ultraportable X60 has gotten plenty of love, so there are some naturally high expectations for this “X60t” tablet incarnation, and it looks like they were pretty well founded. Tablet PC Review has already been putting the brand new tablet through its paces, and it seems to definitely come out on top. In fact, most of the biggest gripes about the laptop are directly related to the Tablet PC OS: slow startup, inconsistent input options, etc.. Performance gets a big bump from that of the X41, though the size of the laptop has increased a bit to accommodate a faster HDD and the extra USB and Firewire ports available on the X60t. As for actual functionality, Lenovo really lent its polish to the proceedings: the pen input feels just right, the XGA MultiTouch (finger-based input allowed) display is bright and quite usable, the SXGA+ (non-MultiTouch) option is great as well, and the keyboard feels ThinkPad-great. Of course, road warriors need not apply. The price of entry is steep, and “features” like a mono speaker slapped underneath the computer make it obvious where Lenovo’s priorities lie. Battery life just OK for the ultraportable set, the 8-cell battery hits around 5 hours at average use (quite a bit under the 7.5 hour rating), but pushes the weight over 4 pounds, while the 4-cell battery manages 2.5 to 3 hours, but maintains ultraportable status. Other little gripes like an EV-DO hump at the top of the screen and no optical drive (you’ll need to spring for the $200 base station) should make you weigh your options carefully, but after the dust settles it’s pretty clear that the X60t is one of the best made tablets on the market, and should please the ThinkPad and/or Tablet PC faithful quite well.

LG LW25 Express Reviewed

Posted on 15 November 2006 by admin

CNet reviews the LG LW25 Express business notebook. At 2.4-pounds, it features an Intel Core Duo T2400 CPU, 1GB of DDR2 SDRAM, GeForce Go 7300 graphics, a DMB TV tuner, and EVDO connectivity. Here’s the verdict:

With its portable form factor and choice of pretty chassis colors, the LG LW25 Express will appeal to the fashion set who need an optical drive to show off their holiday photos. However, its lackluster performance means power users need not apply

Ethernet speeds raised to 100 gigabits per second

Posted on 15 November 2006 by admin

Our consumer-grade home DSL is starting to look pretty paltry compared to the records that are coming out of research labs these days. While we told you about the latest speed record of 14 terabits per second over fiber in Japan, that really doesn’t help use mere mortals who are still using 100Base-T routers in our homes and offices — even though about a month ago, we spied one of the first gigabit routers on the market, which raised our spirits a bit. Well our hopes have been kicked up a few more notches today, with the news from GigaOm that Infinera, the University of California Santa Cruz, Internet2 and Level3 Communications have just demoed a 100 gigabit per second Ethernet connection over a fiber network between Houston, Texas and Tampa, Florida. Now if only we could get the IEEE bureaucracy and networking manufacturers to move this fast — we need at least a gigabit per second in our pads, like, last year.

MSI announces new S430 lappie, adds DTV

Posted on 15 November 2006 by admin

Another day, another laptop — this time, it’s MSI who’s treating us with its new S430, a 14-inch AMD Turion 64 X2-based machine. Like its predecessor the S425 (pictured), the S430 packs WiFi, a 16:10 aspect ratio, and supports up to 2GB of RAM, but this time adds a dual-layer DVD burner, NVIDIA GeForce Go 6100 graphics card, a built-in DTV tuner and an infrared remote control. However, MSI was so excited to tell the world of its latest creation that it somehow forgot to include pictures, prices and locations where we could purchase this example of prime laptop power.
