Samsung Q45 Core 2 Duo

Posted on 28 August 2006 by admin

Mmmm, that tasty Samsung Q35 just went Core 2 Duo. And from the looks of things, that’s the only change you’re gonna see; same 12.1-inch widescreen display, 80GB SATA disk, up to 1GB memory, and integrated Intel graphics swaddled in a sleek, 4-pound ultra-porable. Still, while the new proc won’t be any more efficient with the juice than the Q35′s former Core Duo, that promised 20% boost in performance ain’t chicken feed. Most of all, kudos to you Sammy for not calling this the World’s Smallest Core 2 Duo laptop held by a prostrate, shoeless waif. Nice to see a bit of restraint on this one. Also announced is the less interesting 15.4-inch, R55 with that same 1.8GHz T5600 Core 2 Duo CPU, disk, and RAM but with GeForce Go 7600 graphics for that extra bit of oomph. Stay tuned for the deluge of Core 2 Duo lappies to come dear readers.

HP nx6310 and nx6320 go core 2 duo

Posted on 28 August 2006 by admin

Next up to board the Merom train is Hewlett Packard, with Core 2 Duo versions of its 14.1-inch nx6310 (pictured) and 15.0-inch nx6320 laptops. At their cheapest configurations, both machines sport a 1.66GHz T5500 processor, integrated graphics, CD-ROM drive (blah), and a 40GB hard drive, with the 6310 rocking 256MB of RAM and the 6320 sporting 512MB. The nx6320 also has double the USB 2.0 ports (four versus two), ups the Ethernet to Gigabit status, and throws in an ExpressCard slot in place of the 6310′s PCMCIA. Of course with these fairly weak specs come pretty low prices as well: when they go on sale next week, the nx6310 will start at just 96,600 yen ($825) while the base nx6320 will also be priced under a grand at 111,300 yen ($950).

Aytobe GPS – It’s Danish and Cheap

Posted on 28 August 2006 by admin

Aytobe_2.jpg

Yes, we are obsessed with the price drops going on in the GPS world. Dangaard Telecom just released the Aytobe PND (personal navigation device) in Europe. It’s a PND/nav sat/whatever that is powered by the SiRFStar III – the new badboy GPS chip allowing routes to be calculated much quicker than in previous gen GPS systems.

Other than that, the stats look fairly standard: 300mhz, 64mb internal storage, USB 1.1 (ick), 2gb SD support, Windows CE interface (not sure of functionality), infrared remote and possibly a touch screen (we are reading translation from a Danish company). But, at $250 Euros including tax, the Aytobe may give TomTom a run for their money. We’ll see if it ever comes stateside.

Logitech Z-10 Interactive 2.0 Speaker System: Control Tunes from the Speakers

Posted on 28 August 2006 by admin

Logitech rolled out its Z-10 Interactive 2.0 Speaker System, a pair of USB noisemakers with touch-sensitive controls on a polished acrylic front display. The helpful amber LCD window shows you track info from iTunes, Windows Media Player, WinAmp or MusicMatch, and also gives you transport control over your tunes as well as letting you regulate volume, treble and bass. Heck, the thing will even tell you what time it is.

The bi-amped speakers are 9.7 inches tall, and from what we can see this looks like it could be a winning package. Logitech ships the Z-10 system in September, bringing all this touchscreen and bi-amped juju to you for $150.
