GEN H-4 personal helicopter is for realz and for sale

Posted on 25 August 2006 by admin

Remember that personal helicopter we peeped last year which some of you didn’t think was real? Well, we tracked down the manufacturer and yeah, you guessed it, dug out the price. Ok, it’s not exactly the Bell Rocket Belt we were promised back in the 60′s when Engadget was an upstart think-tank focusing on emerging technology for the US military. Still, the Japanese built GEN H-4 co-axial helicopter features a 125cc, horizontally opposed 2 cylinder engine capable of launching your ass some 1,000-meters (about half a mile) high at a max speed of 90km/hour, or a bit more than a Sammy Hagar. While it would appear to lessen the risk of setting fire to your nether regions, any margin of safety gained is likely offset by the threat from decapitation. For as the machine translation states: the H-4 is not a finished product, yet is “probably” possible to self-assemble. Oh, ok then, can we just PayPal the Â¥3,780,000 (about $32,500) or will a personal check suffice? Yet judging by the photo, it’s safe enough for children to operate so let’s not go all pansy just yet.

Philips Research shows off dandy Lumalive

Posted on 25 August 2006 by admin

We’re certainly no strangers to electroluminescent or LED-lit visual cacophony ’round these parts, even when occasionally integrated into clothing. But you or your buds score +400 nerd points if you’re brave enough to sport Philips Research’s new Lumalive, a low-power flexible array of colored LEDs meshed into a garment’s fabric, which they’re prepping to show off at IFA Berlin. Apparently the “high-impact medium” can be used to deliver “dynamic ads” — as if our clothing wasn’t already enough an advertisement (then again, maybe our threads can start paying for themselves). Either way, media isn’t the only thing it’s good for; as usual, Philips is taking on the color therapy angle, positing the mental health bebefits to be reaped by those exposed to the soothing, mood-enhancing shades when, for example, their curtains are Lumalive enabled.

Vonage and D-Link spawn the VWR VoIP router

Posted on 25 August 2006 by admin

Vonage you dirty, dirty minx you. Introducing the D-Link VWR four-in-one home networking and VoIP solution. This broadband router packs in an 802.11b/g WiFi access point, 4 port Ethernet switch, and two standard phone jacks to connect a multi-line phone to Vonage’s service. Nothing we haven’t seen before from the likes of Thomson, ZyXel and others blanketing similar territories only without the boost of Vonage’s brand recognition. Of course, Vonage was in bed with Linksys back in the 2004 VoIP heyday with the nearly identical WRT54GP2 VoIP WiFi router. With the freshman fat gone, we guess the ol’ girl’s prowling the mean VoIP streets for tricks. So go ahead, take her home for a mere $60 bucks for the box plus another $10 for shipping and $30 for activation — hell, best just offer her a $Benjamin or move along.

Sure, we’ve seen plenty of PSP fakes in our time, but we can’t say we’ve ever seen this many fakeries in one convenient place before. So if you were on the lookout for a PSP look-alike with, say, an SD card slot, or a bundled NES emulator, check out the many many — and we do mean many — options after the break.

Aqua FM TX Pro Snorkel For Underwater Communication and Dance

Posted on 25 August 2006 by admin

Do you have a communication problem? Do others say you just aren’t listening? Chances are you’re either a jerk, or you’re underwater. If it’s the latter, you can use the Aqua FM TX Pro so people on land can talk to you just fine. The active mouthpiece works when bit down on, transferring sound through your teeth and bones to your inner ear, where the vibration gets converted into sound by your brain—the same way it works normally.

Now swim coaches can give instruction to their swimmers while they’re in the water, or, you can set the mouthpiece to listen to FM radio or a MP3/CD device to listen to music in the water. A set of one snorkel and one transmitter is available for $249.99.
