Toshiba’s TDP-ET20U projector sports built-in DVD player

Posted on 24 August 2006 by admin

It looks like Toshiba has the niche projector market on lock down, and its looking to draw the attention of folks who want to add one to their life without all the extraneous connections typically associated with it. The TDP-ET20U, while labeled a new product of their home cinema lineup, seems quite a bit like the “all-in-one” ET20 (in fact, the U at the end might just signal its US release). Rocking the same “extreme short projection” that gives you maximum picture size at minimal distance, the device sports a WXGA resolution, 1,100 ANSI lumens, a 2,000:1 contrast ratio, built-in 5.1 surround speakers, and most notably, a top-loading DVD player. Aside from all this consolidation, you do get HDMI and component terminals to hook up non-integrated gaming systems and HD DVD / Blu-ray players, should the mood strike you. If picking up that ET20 somehow slipped your mind ’til now, you might as well go for broke and snag the TDP-ET20U for $1,399 instead.

G-Force MegaDisk

Posted on 24 August 2006 by admin

It’s an all too common dilemma: you’ve thrown down some serious change for a new Mac Pro and Godot brushed metal DAP, but you’ve got nowhere to turn for a massive external hard disk that sports that token cheese grater look. Okay, so it’s probably not “common” per se, but if it’s your reality, Fantom has the solution. The G-Force MegaDisk is the latest lineup of Mac-ish looking external drives; touted as a “heat dissipating aluminum enclosure,” the sleek box drive sports USB 2.0, FireWire 400, and FireWire 800. The MDC500 and MDC800 house 7,200RPM SATA II drives with 32MB cache, each with 500GB and 800GB, respectively — the big boys, also known as the MDC1000 and MCD1500, rock 1TB and 1.5TB of SATA II storage, but “only” manage 16MB of cache. The Fantom Four can be snapped up now for $269.95, $499.95, $599.95, and $999.95, running from smallest to roomiest, and looks to be today’s surefire winner in the Mac Pro sidekick contest.

Canon Unveils New Photo Printers

Posted on 24 August 2006 by admin

To go with all of the shiny new cameras we’ve covered today, Canon has announced a slew of new printers. There’s the $200 PIXMA Mini260, a small portable model that can print a 4 by 6 photo in under a minute and the $150 SELPHY CP730 and $100 CP720, both of which are dye sublimation models that print up to 4 by 8 photos in 58 seconds for 28 cents a print. The CP730 also includes a 2-inch screen for viewing images before printing.

For larger prints, there’s the PIXMA iP4300, which prints at an impressive 9600 by 2400 resolution to a maximum print size of TK. The iP4300 uses Canon’s new ChromaLife 100 printing system, which they claim will produce prints that last up to 100 years, so your grandchildren can have a good laugh at your expense.

GN Netcom 9350 dual-function wireless headset

Posted on 24 August 2006 by admin

If you’ve been looking for a headset that’ll work with your plain old phone service and also let you do that VoIP thing, you might want to take a peep at GN Netcom‘s new 9350 dual-function headset (or just look past it if you’re on a budget). While GN’s “future-proof” claim seems a little dubious, for $349 you do get a 300 foot range on 1.9GHz (think: “WiFi-friendly”) with DECT 6.0 technology, as well as promised sound enhancements from the headset’s noise-canceling microphone and DSP and IntelliTone capabilities. Expect to get about six hours of talk time when using it with a PC, or nine hours on regular phone duties, with a recharge time of three hours and forty-three hour standby time. If you really want to blow things out, you can also sync up to four headsets to a single base station for conference calls, which kinda negates the whole VoIP cost savings thing, but do your thing.
