Latest pics of Lamborghini Murciélago LP640

Posted on 14 July 2006 by admin

Lamborghini has released latest images of its 2007 Murcielago LP640 supercar. Lamborghini unveiled the 2007 Murcielago LP640, a refreshed version of its range-topping supercar in February. The car is powered by a 6.5-litre V12, longitudinally mounted behind the driver.

The engine’s increased displacement means output jumps to 631 hp at 8,000 rpm. 0-62 mph is accomplished in just 3.4 seconds. A new six-speed gearbox with an optional sequential paddle shift undoubtedly helps achieve those numbers. The carbon fiber exterior has been enhanced with sharper lines, new 18-inch rims enhance the overall appearance, and new outrageous 13.5 inch-wide tires deliver all that power to the ground. The interior has also been revised for increased comfort. The vehicle is expected to be sold a premium model above the standard Murcielago. Get set to shell out a hefty $322,972 for this beauty.

World’s 10 Most Expensive Watches

Posted on 14 July 2006 by admin

expensive_watches.jpg
Time moves forward relentlessly and at a remarkably steady pace–second-by-second, minute-by-minute, hour-by-hour–just as it has since, well, time began. Many of us think of watch just as an instrument to know the pace of time, while there are others who consider their watch as an extension of their personality. Such watch lovers don’t mind shelling out some big bucks to find a perfect piece to complement their persona. From split-second chronographs to moon phase calendars, musical chimes to minute repeaters, ultra slim cases to stylish power-reserve indicators, there’s virtually no end to the complexities watchmakers can crowd onto a dial. The pieces are as laden with complications as they are with extra zeros. And bear in mind that many are available only in limited editions, if they can be found at all. Here’s something for all the watch aficionados- the list of Top 10 eternal time machines by Forbes.

1. Vacheron Constantin- Tour de l’Ile ($1.5 million)The Swiss watchmaker marked its 250th anniversary with the world’s busiest timepiece. The Tour de l’Ile has 834 separate parts and 16 complications, including tourbillon, power reserve, striking-mechanism torque, moon phase, perpetual calendar, sunrise time, leap-year indicator, sunset time, sky chart and others. At $1.5 million, it’s the priciest timepiece in Vacheron Constantine’s anniversary line.

2. Blancpain- 1735- ($839,000)In the No. 2 spot for the second year in a row is Blancpain’s ultraslim 1735. The ultra slim, 42 mm platinum case itself a complication, according to Blancpain’s owner, holds a perpetual calendar, split-second chronograph, minute repeater, tourbillon and moon phase minder. With a crocodile strap and 80-hour power reserve, it’ll wear well with just about anything.

3. Girard-Perregaux- Opera Three- ($532,000)what really differentiates Girard-Perregaux’s Opera Three from all those other complicated watches is its ability to sound passing hours not with a beep, gong or chime, but with actual tunes. A convenient selector enables a choice of two different tunes–each of which can be personalized to the wearer’s taste. With a 43 mm platinum case and a crocodile strap, it’s a mellifluous timepiece that can be yours for $532,000.
4. Parmigiani Fleurier ($477,000)
5. Roger Dubuis ($450,000)
6. Audemars Piguet ($379,000)
7. Jaeger-LeCoultre ($310,000)
8. IWC ($300,000)
9. Omega ($282,500)
10. Breguet ($252,800)
Despite the best efforts of quantum theorists to confuse the issue, for most of us “time” remains a very simple matter.

Korea to get the World’s 2nd tallest building

Posted on 14 July 2006 by admin

Incheon City authorized the Portman consortium to build 151-story twin towers in Songdo International City in the Incheon Free Economic Zone. As of yet known as Incheon Tower, the twin towers will be connected by three sky bridges and house a hotel, a convention center, offices and a shopping mall. The multi-phased $11 billion project is part of Korea’s efforts to transform 1,500 acres of reclaimed land into an unrivaled business hub for Northeast Asia. The construction consortium led by Portman Holdings plans to complete the tower by August 2010. With inclusion of the 151-story twin tower in the FEZ, Incheon will be transformed into a world-class business city on par with Shanghai and Dubai. The twin towers will become the landmark that symbolizes Korea’s future growth potential and opportunities.

Incheon Tower is set to be the world’s second tallest building behind the 160-story Burj Dubai that is under construction in the Gulf state.

d-Media’s G4 portable GPS/DAP

Posted on 14 July 2006 by admin

As portable GPS devices are doing more and costing less, fewer people are stopping at unknown gas stations for directions and more GPS companies are beefing up their product lines. Taiwan-based company d-Media has released an upgrade to their older G3 model, predictably named the G4, which we’ll probably never see here in the US. That said, the new unit boasts a 4-inch 480 x 272 TFT touch screen, IR remote, microSD expansion slot, voice recorder and Bluetooth. Not wanting to fall behind the media-obsessed times, they ‘ve also crammed in support for MP4 video, MP3 audio and digital photos your passengers can enjoy when the unit isn’t giving you directions in one of its 16 compatible languages. According to the product page, all that plus features like e-compass and G sensor, which help keep those directions coming even when a tunnel takes you out of satellite range, make this a device you “can’t take your eye off.” Wait, doesn’t this thing go on your dashboard?

Field-tested MPC-9000 portable computer

Posted on 14 July 2006 by admin

If you often find yourself computing in less than hospitable locales, there’s plenty of rough and tumble notebooks out there; but the inherit expansion limitations of laptops leaves a void that could only be filled by a rig like the Contemporary MicroSystems MPC-9000. The fully featured PC is encased an all aluminum shell seemingly inspired by a lunch box, replete with padded handle. Housed inside is your choice of a 15.4-inch or 17-inch LCD screen, fold-down keyboard, four drive expansion bays, a 400-watt power supply, 1GB of RAM, an AMD or Intel dual-core processor, and all the other amenities commonly found on micro-ATX boards, such as PCI-express slots. The MPC-9000 just begs for abuse with its shock-absorbing HD mounts and expansion card clamps, and allows you to wheel it off-road in the caster-clad case. While this rugged PC shows promise, one mustn’t forget what kind of energy is required to operate a “portable” PC with six exhaust fans; you’ll likely need a tag-along generator when headed into the rough with an, ahem, Contemporary MicroSystems box.
