Siemens Gigaset S450 Cordless Phone With Yahoo! Messenger VoIP

Posted on 07 June 2006 by admin

Oh look, more phone and phone accessory news today. Did the UN declare this International Phone Release Day or something?

Much like the Windows Live Messenger phones that have been popping up lately, this Siemens Gigaset S450 is a cordless phone that connects to the PC via a USB adapter. But instead of Windows Live Messenger, this phone works on Yahoo! Messenger—oh yes!

Now you can walk around the house, provided your house only goes 50 meters in each direction from the phone, and make calls through your landline or through Yahoo! Messenger. Pretty snazzy, if you’re into the whole VoIP thing, and know people who use Y!M.

Toshiba RFID Printers

Posted on 07 June 2006 by admin

Toshiba has launched what it calls “the world’s first operation Print-on-Tag RFID solution.” What’s that mean? It can print label information directly onto RFID tags. It is the TEC B-SX series of label printers from Toshiba that has accomplished this feat. The technology utilized by Toshiba is called SPRINT—no, it isn’t some twisted cellphone RFID cameraphone printer that will rape you on overage charges—SPRINT actually stands for Short Pitch RFID Encoding Technology. This printer will help the exponentially growing RFID market by providing a technology that the smaller-sized enterprises will be able to afford and use.

PQI Announces 64GB Flash Drive

Posted on 07 June 2006 by admin

Taiwanese company PQI (Power Quotient International) augmented its SATA flash drive line with a 64GB model. The storage units, billed as the world slimmest flash drives, consist of 3mm-thin cards that hold huge amounts of data and plug into a Mac or PC using USB 2.0.

The company says these discs will have a transfer rate of 25MB per second, and will be highly efficient, consuming just a small amount of power. A frustrating part of this announcement is that the most important element of this equation, the cost of these drives, was not released yet.
