Reader Dv sent us a little tid-bit about Sony and their manueverings with the Alpha DSLR we talked about a while back.
It seems Sony has purchased Japanese lens company Tamron and will be coming out with the Alpha DSLR with 20 Tamron lenses between June 12 and June 15. The Sony Alpha will be in store in July.
There’s also some talk that Sony purchased Ahead software, makers of Nero Burning ROM. This is pure rumor and conjecture, but after they ate up Sonic Foundry’s Acid and Sound Forge, it’s not too far-fetched. What does that mean to us? It means that Sony is ramping up its DSLR business along with its video and still image authoring software arm, taking a stab at the big boys like Adobe and Apple. Stay tuned.

If you’re looking for car stoked with technology, the Lexus LS 460 has more techno-goodness inside than any other vehicle offered for sale in North America, says the Telematics Research Group (TRG).
What’s the big deal? There’s a 30GB hard drive for both music and navigation, and enough cameras to produce a TV talk show—three of ‘em—to help you to park the thing as well is keep you in your lane. There’s also the obligatory touchscreen voice-activated navigation system, Bluetooth for your phone, live traffic reports and a rockin’ 19-speaker Mark Levinson sound system that can play back MP3s. And then there’s that eight-speed automatic transmission.
You’ll see the LS 460 rolling out this fall, replacing the Lexus LS 430. We’re hearing there’s even a hybrid LS model on the way. Too bad it costs upwards of $60,000 or we’d be blogging from one right now.

Sony just announced their new W850 Walkman cellphone and this baby’s hot. Available in black or white as designs tend to go these days, this tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 slider also delivers UMTS 2100. It comes pre-loaded with the latest Walkman 2.0 player with TrackID allowing you to lookup and identify recorded music samples via the Gracenote Mobile MusicID service. Not only that, but it ships with a 1GB of Memory Strick PRO Duo’in storage (with up to 4GB supported) and features a horizontal mode 2 megapixel shooter with LED light. Rounding out the features are a 2-inch QVGA TFT 260k color display, RDS FM Stereo radio, and Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP stereo audio. No price but we can expect these to ship sometime Q3 2006… in Europe.

Sony has yet another Walkman phone lined up for Q3 launch with the W710 clam for active types. As such, the W710 features a motion sensor and slew of fitness applications which can be managed from both the internal 176 x 220 TFT and 128 x 128 external STN displays to measure running speed, distance and time, or simply count steps back and forth to the Twinkie source. It ships with a 512MB Memory Stick Micro card (expandable up to 1GB) and features a standard 3.5mm jack, RDS FM radio, 2 megapixel shooter, MusicID service, Bluetooth (A2DP stereo audio not specified), and measure in at about 1-inch thick and 3.6-ounces. And just in case you’ll be using it to make calls, it goes quad-band GSM with EDGE support meaning this device is also a US athletic supporter.

Nokia just dropped their new E50 candybar for business users on a tight budget, i.e., anyone not employed by Google. Billed as the thinnest (which isn’t saying much) of the E-series quad-band phones, the E50 goes S60 3rd edition and features the usual support for mobile corporate email solutions like BlackBerry Connect, Visto Mobile, and the like as well as featuring a 1.3 megapixel camera good for a little corporate espionage work and an MP3 player which doubles as that “can’t talk now, on a call” boss impresser. And since it’s business focused, it’s corporate PBX-ready if the infrastructure is in place and supoprts two numbers linked to personal or bidness use.

Looks like iRiver is getting set to launch a terrestrial flavored (judging by that telescoping antenna) portable DMB TV dubbed the Pocket TV B10. In a refreshing salute to minimalism, this pup features a 2.2-inch QVGA display on a device apparently dedicated to digital TV and DMB and FM radio — no attempts to cram in a bunch of PMP features here folks. Said to be dropping in Korea on May 23rd for about $140. But hey, judging by the pics we’re calling prototype on this one so who knows.
