Posted on 09 May 2006 by admin

Now that you’ve seen the Koenigsegg CCR, Top Gear personality Jeremy Clarkson takes its successor — the CCX — out for a spin. This monster offers a twin-supercharged 4.7 litre V8 that pumps out 806bhp (normal petrol) – 900bhp (eco-friendly bio fuel) and has a top speed of 250mph. It rockets from 0-60 in a little over 3 seconds.

JBL’s On Tour Plus and Radial speakers

Posted on 09 May 2006 by admin

Not that we’re experiencing any certain drought out there for PSP and iPod accessories, but JBL’s announcing their latest speaker system devices for the bespoke gadget icons. The PSP, which typically seems to get the emphasis on portable speaker systems, snags an On Stage variant of its own: the 6 watt On Tour Plus goes for $129.95 and is available now; the 60 watt Radial, successor to the On Time, will have and remote for use with that iPod, and should set you back $299.95 in June when suddenly all your friends will undoubtedly begin commenting on how your speaker-dock looks like a lopsided Michelin, or, depending on the crowd with which you hang, an As Four purse.

JVC’s Everio GZ-MG47 20GB camcorder announced, MG505 gets official

Posted on 09 May 2006 by admin

JVC just introduced their GZ-MG47 (pictured) disk-based camcorder to the Everio line-up while officially turning-out their GZ-MG505 — bringing an end to her mysterious ways. The MG47 comes in at the low-end of the series with a 20GB hard drive capable of recording about 5-hours of MPEG-2 video quality (at highest quality settings) and features a single CCD for 1.3 megapixel snaps, and F1.2 lens capable of a 15x optical zoom. The MG505 is definitely the star though, as JVC’s and apparently the industry’s, first disk-based camcorder to feature a trio of CCDs. As such, the MG505 ushers in the promise of 30GB of HDD flexibility with the kind of 3CCD image quality previously limited to MiniDV recorders. No wonder it’s already winning TIPA awards. It features a high-resolution 10x optical zoom lens, 16:9 (1173 x 660 x 3 effective pixels) native resolution, and a large 2.7-inch display to show off your best shots. The GZ-MG505 goes on sale in July at the price of $1,300.

For the ultimate protection the camcorders have been built to be extra tough and include the JVC floating suspension system that reduces the effects of vibrations through advanced polymer shock absorbers.

Sony adds Core Solo, Celeron options to SZ notebooks

Posted on 09 May 2006 by admin

Sony has just announced several new configurations for its SZ series of VAIO notebooks, the VGN-SZ91 and -SZ81, which add Intel Core Solo and Celeron processor options to the Core Duo procs already available. Both 13.3-inch models sport 1,280 x 800 WXGA displays, but the SZ91 incorporates a thinner LCD that lobs off a few millimeters of thickness compared to the SZ81. Battery life is also slightly better on the SZ91, with a claimed 7-hours of juice in Pentium-equipped models, which is about an hour more than the SZ81 supposedly can muster using the same processor. Other than these relatively minor differences, the features on both laptops are basically the same, with integrated graphics (GeForce Go 7400 available for extra), from 512MB to 2GB of RAM, 802.11a/b/g, PCMCIA/ExpressCard slots, and options for Bluetooth 2.0, FeliCa support, and a fingerprint reader. Sony will drop both models on the 13th of this month, with the SZ81 starting at $1,343 and the SZ91 at $1,486.

Windows CE 6 previewed

Posted on 09 May 2006 by admin

Microsoft just dolled-up Windows CE in a new beta dress dubbed Windows CE 6 and turned her out at the Mobile and Embedded DevCon show in Vegas baby, Las Vegas. The new flavor of this embedded OS features a redesigned kernel with expanded capacity for up to 32k simultaneous processes while remaining true to the features and functionality of previous CE generations. So what the hell does that mean to you? Well, as the basis for Windows Mobile we should see new products based on both embedded CE (set-top boxes, industrial automation and medical devices) as well as sophisticated SmartPhones and PocketPCs coming sometime in 2007.

RevoPower: Moped Retrofit

Posted on 09 May 2006 by admin

revo_485.jpg

Hey, let’s don’t actually expend any energy riding bikes—we could just replace our front wheels with a RevoPower can never have to pedal our bicycles again. Well, not quite. This little 1.1HP, 23cc, two-stroke internal combustion engine-that-could revs up to 7500RPM and its maker says it can reach speeds of 20 mph on a flat surface.

The remarkable thing about this engine is that it’s less than 3 inches thick, but it might be a little awkward since it adds 12 pounds to your front wheel. The good news is, it’s capable of 200 miles per gallon. Available in early 2007, the reduced fitness it brings you will cost you $400.
