Caparo T1 to Be Unveiled in Monaco

Posted on 19 April 2006 by admin

Caparo Vehicle Technologies, a specialty-car development company founded by ex-McLaren engineers, will soon unveil the street-legal F1 car they’ve been threatening to build. The batshit-insane, 1,100-pound, V8-powered T1 will be introduced by His Most Serene Highness of Monaco at the kingdom’s Top Marques event next week, though with a zero-to-60 time of 2.5 seconds, it’s doubtful even the king could keep his composure. An international incident may be at hand.

Treo Hollywood sighted for reals?

Posted on 19 April 2006 by admin

Enough with that sketchwardo, sparkle blue, antenna-free Treo we’ve been seeing around, these new pics seem to be more like the real “Hollywood” deal. Just as rumored, the phone is slimmer than the 700 and 650, and antenna free as well. The profile actually looks a bit BlackBerry-esque, but the front is all Treo. Palm OS loyalists among us won’t so excited to see Windows Mobile 5.0 running on this thing, but just keep in mind Ed Colligan’s word that Palm OS isn’t going anywhere, we’re sure a Palm OS version of this unit will follow soon. There’s no carrier branding on this unit, but the tipster reported 67KB/s speeds on Cingular’s UMTS 1900 network, along with a 300MHz processor, 1.3 megapixel camera, and that fairly tried 240 x 240 display. Of course, these pics are a bit blurry, and we shouldn’t expect the gospel truth on this device until Palm trots it out at a press conference (if then), but it’s looking good so far.

Sony’s VE7000S Walkman DVD player

Posted on 19 April 2006 by admin

Sony continues to milk the Walkman branding with the release of their new portable DVD player line-up. Introducing the D-VE7000S DVD player (pictured) which brings the coveted Walkman branding in a compact package sporting a 7-inch display, a couple of headphone jacks, and a dock with integrated speakers capable of charging the unit in about 3 hours. Also announced is the DVP-FX810 which is just a regular ol’ portable DVD player with two headphone jacks for snuggling up against that 8-inch display for up to 6-hours at a time off battery. Yup, that’s it… no DivX, no network, no USB, no tie-in to Sony’s Japan-only Portable-TV service or up-coming HUB PlayStation Network Platform. Just a couple of portable DVD players shipping in June for undisclosed prices. Come on Sony, we’re waiting to be impressed again. More snaps after the break.

Teclast’s other “dual core” DAP, the T19

Posted on 19 April 2006 by admin

We see a lot of digital audio players pass through here, but Teclast is one of the first manufacturers we’ve seen to incorporate a separate processor for audio decoding. Just weeks after we spotted their first so-called “dual core” DAP, the C150, comes another PDA-esque model called the T19, which has the same dedicated Wolfson WM8750 decoding chip as the “C” but adds a 1GB option into the mix. Besides MP3 playback, the “T” features MPEG-1 video support, and sports extras such as an FM tuner, line-in recording and voice recording, along with an eBook reader, dictionary, and calendar. Probably only available in China for the time being, the T19 costs 77 or 90 dollars worth of yuan for the 512MB and 1GB versions, respectively.

Panasonic’s 103-inch plasma

Posted on 19 April 2006 by admin

You know that 103-inch, ain’t ever going to go on sale, plasma TV Panasonic’s been lugging around the trade show circuit? Well, start pinchin’ those pennies son, cause Panny is putting them on sale in time for the holidays. This 7.5 x 4.2-foot (8.5-foot diagonal) plasma goes 16:9 and throws up a 1920 x 1080 resolution, 3000:1 contrast ratio and features Panasonic’s 1080p HD high-speed pixel drive we’ve already seen in their 65-incher. The perfect, er, accessory for their DMP-BD10 Blu-ray player, no doubt. Sorry, no pricing announced — but if you gotta ask, you can’t afford it.
