Parlee Z3S1 Custom Bike

Posted on 07 April 2006 by admin

If you thought that Mercedes bicycle we showed you yesterday was light, take a look at the Parlee Z3Sl Custom, weighing 10.86 lb. It’s so light, its weight is expressed in grams; this one is 4929g. Made in the great U. S. of A., the 950-gram carbon frame alone costs $4700.

So never mind impressing everybody with that famed Mercedes logo—though beautiful, that bike is like a tank dragging an anvil compared to this one. Readers, school us further: are there even lighter bikes than this?

OnHand wrist PDA

Posted on 07 April 2006 by admin

The last time we heard anything about the OnHand wrist PDA was probably close to two years ago. So, given its almost complete lack of marketing, distribution, buzz or sales, we’re not exactly surprised that manufacturer Matsucom has decided to call it quits and stop producing the device, which managed to incorporate a full set of PDA functions into a fairly ugly watch. The OnHand was hobbled not just by a laissez-faire approach to marketing and a poor design, but by its use of proprietary technology and limited PC support (despite being introduced in 2003, it used a serial cable instead of USB). The small OnHand community did come up with some decent hacks, including a GPS hookup and an external keyboard, but that wasn’t enough to keep this going. If you’re still dying to get a wrist PDA, though, all hope isn’t lost. Despite constant rumors of its death, Fossil’s Palm-based Abacus wrist PDA is still available from TigerDirect for about $50.

Acer Aspire 9800 to be next HD DVD-equipped laptop

Posted on 07 April 2006 by admin

Toshiba’s Qosmio G30 may be the first laptop to launch with a built-in HD DVD drive, but it certainly won’t be the last. And as of now, it looks like Acer will be next to market with the Aspire 9800, a media-centric semi-portable due to hit Europe next month. The Acer laptop, in addition to its HD drive, will feature a mammoth 20-inch 1680×1050 display, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600, digital/analog hybrid tuner, 1.3 megapixel webcam, DVI-D out and up to 240GB of storage. No official pricing yet, but word on the street puts this baby at over $2,600. Oh, one more thing. Acer has three asterisks next to its claim that the box will include HD DVD, leading to a footnote indicating the drive will be an option “when available.” So, depending on whether or not the drivemaker (which may well be Acer itself) gets the units in on time, this may arrive next month sans HD DVD.

Get Rugged with the Motorola i580 Phone

Posted on 07 April 2006 by admin

This phone was designed to meet strict military specifications for resistance from blowing rain, dust, shock and vibration. It has push to talk, Bluetooth, 1.3-megapixel camera, rubber exterior, MP3 player, GPS for location-based services and TransFlash memory expansion. This could be an excellent phone for the outdoorsy types or bitter ex-girlfriends who always seem to throw their phones at the wall and insist you buy them a new one because it was your fault that they were so damn mad, I mean honestly, owning a fleshlight shouldn’t be considered cheating…oh, this phone is available through Sprint-Nextel.

Propello Cageless Fan

Posted on 07 April 2006 by admin

From the always entertaining, Museum of Modern Art Store comes this gem, a cageless fan. First off, the blades are rubber, so no worry about your cat’s tongue getting mangled. Next, the fan costs a blistering $140.00. Maybe it’s just me, but I’ll save $135 and deal with a cage. This product was the work of Daniel Black and Martin Blum.

Instantly Boil Water With the Hydrotap

Posted on 07 April 2006 by admin

While the Zip Hydrotap may look like an ordinary water faucet, don’t be so easily mistaken. What sets the Hydrotap apart from other faucets is that it can dispense boiling water at the touch of a [child-proof] button. Of course, it’ll give you plain old cold water for those hot summer days spent on a lake in the Heartland. It’s easy to install as well, either free-standing or mounted on a sink. As long as there’s plumbing nearby, the Hydrotap will go to work, making fiddling with kettles a thing of the past.
