Mamiya ZD 22-megapixel DSLR is here … finally

Posted on 10 March 2006 by admin

If you’ve been waiting for the 22-megapixel Mamiya ZD digital SLR, we’ve got good news and bad news for you. (Yeah, we know that sounds familiar. It’s that kind of day.) First the good news: Nearly two years after being announced, the ZD is here, and is making its way into the dealer channel. The bad news? Nearly two years after being announced, the ZD is here, and is making its way into the dealer channel — at a price of about $12,000. Lens not included. Is it worth it? Let’s just say that if you want a 22-megapixel SLR with a full-frame CCD and compatiblity with Mamiya lenses, you don’t have a lot of other choices (other than a digital back, that is). BenQ-Siemens OLED Phone, the S88

Posted on 10 March 2006 by admin

The highlight of this phone is easily the bright, beautiful OLED display. It also has a 2.0 megapixel camera that is also capable of capturing video. It comes in two colors: black and white and has the usually kicks of the average cell phone, including an MP3 player with expandable memory via MicroSD. This phone may not standout with its features, but the screen is absolutely beautiful. It should be popping up around Q2.

This phone is described as the “ultimate music phone,” coincidentally it resembles a gadget that many people in the world call the ultimate MP3 player. The phone supports WMA, MP3, AAC and AMR. It also has a 1.4 megapixel camera with a 4x zoom. The criticisms come from the fact that it has a revolutionary scroll wheel design that has never been used before.

We’re not sure why they keep working on ancient memory card formats like SecureDigital (if it’s not thumbnail-sized or smaller, we’re not interested), but advances in this venerable format continue unabated, with cards now trickling out that support the new SDHC (for SD High Capacity), or SD 2.0, standard. Panasonic has just announced a 2.0-compliant 4GB model that appears to fall under the class 2 category of the new format’s rating system (out of 2, 4, and 6), which refers to the card’s minimum transfer speed in MBps. SDHC cards promise capacities as high as 32GB, while offering the DRM-friendly security features that content producers love to frustrate us with. Panny’s first entrant into the SDHC game will be available worldwide this summer.
