Tatung V620 Portable Media Center

Posted on 11 January 2006 by admin

Tatung’s new portable media center, the V620, looks very much like the Samsung YH-999 PMC from the size and form factor angles. Its 3.5” color screen offers a resolution of 20 x 240. Unfortunately, the 20GB HDD works against it since newer PMCs offer a larger capacity and 20GB of storage space isn’t worth much nowadays, especially when video is involved. The v620 can download videos from TiVo Series2 DVRs and multimedia content from Windows Media Center PCs as well. (specs below) Windows Mobile Center via Krunker

• 3.5” wide screen, ideal for easier viewing
• 20 gigabytes (GB) of storage space
• Compatible with popular media file formats, including .wmv, .wav, JPEG, and MP3
• Familiar Windows Mobile software navigation
• Media download from Media Center PCs
• Recorded TV download from TiVo Series2
• Audio integration with Xbox 360
• Display: 3.5” QVGA (320 x 240) LCD screen
• Storage: 20 GB hard drive
• Battery hours: 20 of audio/5 of video
• MPU: Texas Instruments DM320
• System requirements: Microsoft Windows Media Player 10

Toshiba 803T debuts in Taiwan

Posted on 11 January 2006 by admin

The Toshiba 803T 3g phone that runs on a GSM network is offered by Vodafone in Japan, although it can also be found on Taiwanese shores as well. This could very well shape up to be the only opportunity for one to purchase an unlocked Japanese phone outside of the Land of the Rising Sun. What’s the fuss, you might ask. The 803T is deemed to be the iPod of cellphones in Japan, thanks to its superb MP3 playback capabilities and a 2.3 megapixel camera. Phone Daily (Chinese) via Akihabara News

Western Digital’s Raptor X HDD

Posted on 11 January 2006 by admin

Got a PC decked out with neon lights, case mods, and Quake 4? This is the hard disk for you. The Western Digital Raptor X is a powerhouse 10,000rpm, SATA hard drive with 16MB cache and Native Command Queuing. The only size available is 150GB and the casing is a clear, see-through style that I’m sure looks awesome next to your cold cathodes. WD is marketing the Raptor X as a hard drive for performance enthusiasts who demand top-notch gear for gaming, rendering, and other intense tasks. You can expect the Raptor X to be shipping sometime by the end of Q1. Performance doesn’t come cheap, though—be prepared to shell out $349 for the 150GB model.

Norcent Slim 8-Megapixel

Posted on 11 January 2006 by admin

For an 8-megapixel camera, the Norcent DC-820 is certainly slim. Introduced at CES, the new camera also includes SD/MMC slots, PicBridge support, MPEG-4 video recording at 640 x 480, 3x optical zoom, a 2.4 inch LCD and 32MB of on-board memory, all for just $300. Seems a little cheap for that, but it’s certainly a good deal. Though Norcent may not be a brand that most of you have heard much about, I’d like to take a few shots with this baby.

Y-E DATA announces ExpressCard/34 media reader

Posted on 11 January 2006 by admin

If you found yourself scratching your head at the announcement of an ExpressCard/34 slot in the new MacBook Pro, you’re probably not alone. Built by the PCMCIA association to take slot dwelling expansion cards into the next generation, the ExpressCard is smaller and faster than a PC Card, and can support PCI Express — all good things, but it leaves EV-DO card users and others out in the cold for now. At least Y-E DATA of Japan has their act together, since they’ve announced a 5-in-1 card reader for the new platform. Good for them, but let’s hope we see some other cards on the market real quick like, or Apple could be losing a bunch of those mobile professionals who have been holding out for Intel books for a while already.

DLO HomeDock Lets You Navigate iPod on TV

Posted on 11 January 2006 by admin

  Â

MacWorld Expo 2006: New DLO HomeDock Lets You Navigate iPod on TV.

The HomeDock Deluxe will ship this March for a retail price of $149.99.
More details on the DLO site.
See also the original DLO HomeDock, which as announced at the Apple Expo in Paris last year.

From I4U

Added from Engadget:

This is DLO HomeDock Deluxe. The docking station works like the original HomeDock; you just place your iPod in the cradle, run some cables to your TV and/or stereo, and you can control it via the included remote while audio and video are routed to your home components. But the Deluxe adds one key feature: the ability to control your iPod directly from your TV screen. This could be especially handy if you’ve got a lot of video on your iPod and want to be able to easily jump from one recorded show to another — if, that is, the HomeDock Deluxe allows this. The specs only list the ability to control music and slide shows from the TV screen, and if you can’t do the same for video, we’ll skip this one. It’s due out in March for $149.99; we’re sure we’ll find out more before then.
