iSee 360i (iPod Dock)

Posted on 06 January 2006 by admin

Â

This thing is a dock for 4G and 5G iPods that lets you watch video on a 3.6-inch, 320 x 240 LCD screen (by using your iPod as USB mass storage drive to stash video and music and photos). We figured they’d find themselves on the receiving end of a cease & desist from Apple — or at least the receiving end of some nastly glares from Stevie J. during Macworld next week — but apparently the company is made up of ex-Apple people who have managed to secure both Jobs’ blessing and a license for their dock adapter.

Its QVGA screen was bright and clear — we only wish they’d gone for a widescreen display — and rather than try and reproduce the iPod’s interface, they’ve decided to go with an icon-based UI that gives you the option of navigating your video and music collection by cover art.
The iSee obviously adds enough to your iPod to make it comparable in size and weight to an Archos AV500, but there’s something undeniably clever about a device that lets you add some extra functionality to a gadget you already own. All they’ve got to do is bring the price down, $249 seems just a little too steep, doesn’t it? Either way, their rep, Melanie Vuynovich (who was also our hand model for the shoot) told us that the iSee 360i will ship this quarter.

Check Out the New Porsche!

Posted on 06 January 2006 by admin

Â

Yup, figured I’d give you a quick break from all the tech to take a look-see at the brand new Porsche Cayman S, shown at the Greater LA Auto Show, which is also going on this week. The Cayman S is a 295-horsepower, two-seat coupe that is being marketed as a “bridge between the Boxster roadster and the 911 Carrera.” No price yet, but would it really matter?

Other important specs include an available integrated EDGE radio, biometric fingerprint sensor, G-Sensor shock protection, and built in mic and camera for video-conferencing. Expect the new SZ’s this spring starting just under $2,000 for the base and moving on up from there.

Nikon prepping wireless D3H DSLR?

Posted on 06 January 2006 by admin

Â

We’re hearing rumblings from France of a new DSLR from Nikon, the D3H, that packs in WiFi and a 3-inch LCD. The supposed camera should take 10 megapixel pics and drop in the second half of the year for $3800. We sure wouldn’t mind peeping that 320,000 pixel 3-inch LCD, or offloading pics with the 802.11b/g WT-3 wireless transmitter, but we’ll have to wait for Nikon to announce this for reals before we get too excited here.

Sandisk’s Sansa e200 expandable 2/4/6GB music player

Posted on 06 January 2006 by admin

Sandisk’s got some new gear to show off today, including their new Sansa e200 portable music player. It’ll come in three flavors, 6, 4, and 2GB, each including a MicroSD slot for expanding with Sandisk media (of course), as well as PlaysForSure support and an FM tuner in a 1.7 x 3.5 x 0.5-inch titanium and Liquidmetal alloy casing. Expect these to set you back $300, 250, or 200 depending on your capacity. Way to go, Sandisk — we were just starting to think nothing interesting was coming out of the 0.85 / 1-inch drive-based digital audio player space.
