Hands-on with the Nokia N92

Posted on 02 December 2005 by admin

From Engadget.com:
There’s no denying that this is one big handset (you’ve got to squeeze that digital TV tuner in there somewhere) and the keypad is not so hot, but they definitely delivered on the mobile TV experience. The display on the N92 is crisp and bright, and since the video is broadcast rather than streamed (we watched some live NBC courtesy of a DVB-H node that Nokia setup for the event) there isn’t any of the stuttering or caching you sometimes have to deal with when you stream video over a cellular connection.

WidowPC’s Sting 917X2 claims to be the world’s first dual core laptop

Posted on 02 December 2005 by admin

WidowPC has just announced a new laptop that they are claiming to be the first-ever notebook to feature a dual core processor, the Sting 917X2. The spec sheet for this monster 11.3-pound rig reads like a gamer’s wish list (please excuse us while we catch our breath): AMD 64 X2 Dual Core 4800+ (other options are available as well), 17-inch widescreen 1900 x 1200 WUXGA+ SuperBrite LCD, nVidia 7800 GTX graphics card with PCI-Express, up to 2GB of 400 MHz dual channel DDR RAM, dual SATA drives for as much as 240GB of storage, dual optical drive bays for optional dual-layer DVD burners, 7-in-1 memory card reader, optional TV tuner with remote, front panel LCD with media controls, built-in webcam, 2 FireWire ports, 4 USB 2.0 ports, serial port, infrared port, parallel port, external keyboard/mouse port, DVI, S-Video in and out, audio in/out, digital audio out, and 802.11a/b/g. Whew! Anyway, the catch here is that they’re only accepting preorders pending the arrival of the dual-core chips from AMD, but if you plunk down your $3447 (for the base model, naturally) it sounds like you’ll get your sting-on before the end of the year.

Nokia 6233

Posted on 02 December 2005 by admin

Another Nokia phone announced today is the 6233. A Triband GSM candy bar phone with 2100Mhz WCDMA support, the 6233 also includes a 2-megapixel camera (that’s more like it), color display, 3D surround sound stereo speakers and an email client that comes with a neat spam filter. Also comes with OMA Digital Rights Management v2.0 that will let remote managers lock down the phone if it’s lost or stolen. Not a bad idea considering those bastard service providers will charge you for any calls made on a stolen phone before you call and cancel. You’ll also get a music player and Bluetooth in the package. Should be on sale around Q2 of 2006.

Tiny, Mighty, Fujitsu Laptop

Posted on 02 December 2005 by admin

Pretty much everything you need from a bigger laptop smashed into a nice-looking tiny tot of a machine, the Fujitsu T70M weighs about 2 1/2 lb. and comes with a 1.2Ghz Pentium CPU, 60GB of hard drive space and a DVD burner to boot. Rounded out with WiFi and a 56Kbps dial-up modem for all kinds of schlepping, the one thing you may not be super impressed with is the 10.4-inch display and the smaller-sized keyboard. But great for those on the go. Includes PCMCIA Type II, Memory Stick, SD Card and xD slots.
