1KG Fujitsu Siemens LifeBook P1510 convertible

Posted on 15 October 2005 by admin

At just 1 KG, the Fujitsu Siemens LifeBook P1510 convertible manages to squeeze in an 8.9-inch widescreen, 1.2 GHz processor, 60 GB hard drive, 1 GB of RAM, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Clocking in at an even smaller size than its miniscule LifeBook P7010, Fujitsu Siemens has introduced the LifeBook P1510, weighing in at an airy 1 KG. A convertible tablet, the P1510 offers a wide set of features despite its miniscule form factor, including an 8.9-inch widescreen display along with a range of wired and wireless connectivity options.

Powered by Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 running atop an Intel Pentium M 753 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz and a 915GMS chipset, the LifeBook P1510 supports from 512 MB to 1 GB of 400 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. Hard drives are available in sizes of either 30 or 60 GB, both of which spin at 4,200 RPM, rely on IDE for connectivity and are shock-mounted.

The display of the P1510 is of the widescreen variety, offering a WSVGA resolution of 1,024 x 600 pixels and powered by up to 128 MB of shared memory courtesy of the integrated Intel chipset. When powering a monitor through the VGA out port of the tablet, the maximum resolution supported is 1280 x 1024 pixels.

In the department of connectivity, the P1510 offers up dual USB 2.0 ports along with 10/100 Ethernet, a 56K V.92 modem and VGA out, as well as dual expansion slots for SD/MMC and CompactFlash Type II cards. For wireless connectivity, tri-mode Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g and Bluetooth 1.2 are supported; Infrared is nowhere to be found.

Skipping the touch pad due to the limited amount of real estate, the P1510 is instead equipped with dual mouse buttons, a scroll wheel and a touch stick. Also on the unusual side, the P1510 relies on passive digitizer technology, which negates the need for a dedicated stylus to operate the touch-sensitive display; a fingertip will do just as well for this purpose as it will for the tablet’s integrated biometric fingerprint reader.

Measuring in at 232 x 167 x 37 mm, the Fujitsu LifeBook P1510 claims a battery life of up to 4 hours from its standard, 3-cell Lithium Ion battery and will be available throughout Europe in November, starting at $2,500 EUR.

O2 Wizard

Posted on 15 October 2005 by admin

The soon to be released O2 from HTC. Not much is known about the new Pocket PC except that it will run Windows Mobile 5.0 on a TI OMAP CPU with 200 MHz only, instead of an Intel Xscale based CPU. The O2 features slide out keyboard which is probably why it looks a little large.

A Few Moments With Nokia’s E70

Posted on 15 October 2005 by admin

Nokia’s E70 is one of the three new Eseries devices that the company has targeted at business enterprise users. Its design borrows heavily from the 6800, Nokia’s first handset with the flip-over QWERTY keyboard. Like the other handsets in the new Eseries, it supports SIP compliant VOIP over its WiFi connection.

As a messaging device, its support for a wide variety of push email based solutions will come in handy. Unlike the series 40 based 6800 and 6820, the E70 makes use of the much more flexible Series 60 user interface. On top of that, it also has a large, high resolution color display. The 352×416, 262k screen is perfect for dealing with email and simple web browsing.

In terms of size, the E70 felt to me much like the original 6800 in terms of keyboard size and overall bulk. It isn’t a huge device, at at about 127g in weight, it isn’t going to be a bother in your pocket or purse.

Since the two E70 handsets that I was playing with were both early prototypes, especially when it came to software, I can’t really comment on any of the real functionality of the new push email or WiFi support. None the less, current fans of the 6800 series are bound to be thrilled with the prospect of what Series 60 3rd Edition is going to bring to the design.
You’ll find more photos of the Nokia E70 on the following page.
