MPIO Launches MPIO-One: World’s Smallest Media Player?

Posted on 09 August 2005 by admin

Months after announcing the MPIO-One, MPIO has finally launched the self-proclaimed world’s smallest portable media player in the UK. It weighs less than 1.2 oz., and measures at a height and width around 1.26 x 2.16 inches. You’ll be able to play all different sorts of video files on this thing, including MPEG-4, WMV, and DivX. Audio playback includes MP3, WMA, and Ogg Vorbis formats. The 1.04 inch OLED display is capable of displaying 65,000 colors, but at a size that tiny, I highly doubt anyone would care.

Possible battery life is 15 hours, and the MPIO-One is available in 256MB, 512MB, and 1GB capacity. Price is £119, £139 and £179 respectively. No word on if it’ll be released elsewhere.

The Casio Exilim EX-Z10, EX-Z110, EX-Z120

EX-Z120
In addition to their new 5 megapixel EX-Z500 today, Casio also announced three other new devices: the 5 megapixel black EX-Z10, 6 megapixel EX-Z110, and 7.2 megapixel EX-Z120 (shown above). Kind of a bummer they all don’t feature the Z500’s new SUPER SHOT power longevity that supposedly boosts battery life to up to 500 shots, nor its large screen (these guys all weigh in with 2-inch displays), but they do at least feature anti-shake DSPs and viewfinders.

Orange SPV C550 review

Posted on 09 August 2005 by admin

SPV
CoolSmartphone spent some special time with the SPV C550, that new Windows Mobile-powered Smartphone that Orange intro’d a few weeks back. As we’ve mentioned before, the C550 is more or less the follow-up to the C500 (which is known as the Audiovox SMT 5600 here in the States), it’s just a bit more on the music tip than its predecessor and comes with dedicated media player control buttons on the front. Even if that’s not your bag, they’ve made a few other improvements to the phone, like a proper joystick, a one megapixel digital camera and a QVGA (320 x 240 pixel) LCD screen. Too bad it sounds like Orange still has a few bugs to work out with the phone, the kids over at CoolSmartphone recommend that any current C500 owners looking to upgrade hold off on buying the C550 until they’ve issued an update.
